The sisters of AFJN-Ghana visited two communities to engage community members on the issue of early child marriage in the month of march. The first community they visited was Chifoyilli in the district of Tolon, Tamale, followed by Gbulahuga. During these visits, the sisters sought to raise awareness about the negative effects of early child marriage and promote dialogue on how to prevent it.

We were heartened by the warm welcome and active participation of community members, who shared their perspectives and experiences with us. Early child marriage is a harmful practice that affects the lives of millions of girls around the world, including an estimated 21% of girls in Ghana who are married before the age of 18. This puts them at risk of dropping out of school, experiencing health complications, and being subjected to violence.

We are grateful for the insights and feedback we received from the communities we visited, and we will continue to work with communities across Ghana to advocate for the rights and well-being of girls. Thank you to all who joined us in this important conversation. Together, we can make a difference
